DUTCH GIRL

Vacation Photos

2005-01-20 - 3:40 p.m.

Okay. Here are a few photos from the vaction. Almost none of them are of me for 2 reasons: #1 - I was taking the pictures. It's my camera. #2 - I HATE pictures of myself, especially right now, when I've gained back a lot of weight and feel like a huge porker. I swear I added 10 more pounds in the 2 weeks we were away.

Anyhow - here's a tiny glimpse of our holiday.

This is the lovely Buenaventura, our home-away-from-home hotel, where we have stayed 4 times now. This picture is taken from the sunset bar, while sipping early afternoon cocktails (not to be confused with morning cocktails, lunchtime cocktails, late afternoon cocktails or evening cocktails!)

This is the hot-tub area on the roof of the sunset bar, with Trevor bringing us sunset cocktails. You gotta love a bar with a hot-tub on the roof.

This is the lovely 42 foot sailboat we chartered to go sailing for 6 hours on our final Friday. That's the life, I tell you.

This is the ENORMOUS yacht moored just outside the marina, which I kind of wished was our boat. Note the helicopter on the top, plus the 25 foot power boat on the side (with a 30 foot sailboat hung off the other side). I'm guessing it sleeps about 40 people. Registered out of the Caymen Islands, we had a lot of fun speculating about the drug load who might have owned it.

We spent most of the morning following a pod of humpback whales out to sea. Here's a little whale tale for you. They're hard to photograph, cause they move pretty fast for being such big buggers.

Here's my hubby feeling supremely relaxed on the deck of the boat.

Here's Shari and Trevor, equally blissed out up at the front of the boat.

And here are three of the four happy sailors on the dock when we got back. We were all hot, sticky, wind blown, relaxed and ready for a cold beer, but I made them turn around for one last photo.

The Friday before, we had gone to visit our dear friend Armundo at his Uncle's restaurant, called Tinos. If you're ever in Puerto Vallarta, it's a great place. Amazing seafood. It's where all the Mexican Soccer and Mariachi stars in that area go to eat. This is Armundo. We've known him since he was 18, since our first trip to PV. This time, we discovered that he and T have the same birthday, which blew them both away.

While at Tino's we treated Shari and Trevor to their first experience with Raicilla, which is 90 proof home-brew tequilla, sort of like Mexican screech. This is Shari going for the first shot.

This is Shari going for the fourth shot.

All in all, we had five shots each. Plus a lot of beer. Raicilla has a kind of halucinagenic quality to it. We were all completely wacko on five shots, and proceeded to wander the streets of Pitillal (the town just outside of PV where Tino's in actually located), trying to find a cab. It was hilarious. We were all back at the hotel and passed out for the night by 9pm, but up bright and early the next morning with no hang-overs. Love that shit!

This is T playing guitar with the Ranchero band after about 3 shots. Armundo and I had to beg him to agree to do it, but once he did, everyone loved it. He sang a beautiful song in Spanish and the other musicians invited him to come back and play any time. This is the only photo with me in it, in the bright dress and ponytail.

That's it. I didn't take as many pictures this time around, as we've been there four times now and I think I've taken pictures of just about everything in the town.

Sufice to say, we had an excellent time and were all very sad to come home to the cold snowy reality of our lives, with work and stress and all that stuff. But much better for having had two weeks of lying around in the sun.

Vorig - Daarna
