DUTCH GIRL

Rambling avoidance.

2005-05-13 - 12:00 p.m.

I just came home from the gym and then a brief grocery shop, and I'm now sitting here, writing this and avoiding cleaning my house, which is the major thing on the agenda.

Other things I'm avoiding:

1 - Thinking about how broke I am right now. I just got paid on Thursday and I'm already $300 into my overdraft, and I still owe $200 on my cell phone and $120 to my trainer and I don't get paid again until the 24th. Thank god T comes home next week. He better be bringing some cash! And I better be living lean for the next week.

2 - Thinking about the fact that the %$#@# company that owns our building is kicking us out of our rehearsal hall and we now have to find a place to store a bunch of shit and a place to rehearsal all next season that isn't too far away and basically costs no money, and we have to do it in the next 2 to 3 weeks.

3 - The fact that I still haven't finished my taxes and I'm sure I owe lots of money (see #1).

Yikes. Now that I've written all that down, I'm suddenly thinking about it again. Quick, change the subject.

I've been reading this strange book for the last few days, one I picked up from the second-hand stall at the Farmer's Market on Sunday. It's called THE THIRD PERSON, by some young English dude. Basically, there's this guy who's girlfriend disappears one day and when he goes searching for her, he discovers that she was spending all her time on the internet and got involved in all these weird porn/snuff sites and she's been kidnapped and raped and murdered. And there's this other guy who has this amazing ability to write descriptions of things that are so stiring and detailed they can make the reader feel that he/she is right there, smelling things and feeling the sun and hearing the voices of the people around the writer as he writes. But he (the writer) is empty inside, so he keeps pushing the limit of what he describes in his writing and eventually, he ends up writing this really hard-core porn stuff involving watching people get raped and murdered while he describes it. So he's written about the other guy's girlfriend, and the document ends up getting circulated on the internet and it takes on a life of it's own, traveling around shutting down computer systems and stealing bits of other sites, and eventually comes back to the first guy as a letter of sorts from the girlfriend telling him not to feel badly, she's okay now and he needs to get on with his life.

Where do people think this stuff up?

And now - I must start the cleaning. I'm having an end of season party here tomorrow night and my house is just a mess, so some serious work must be done. I don't even know where to start. But it WILL be done by tomorrow afternoon.

You're all invited. Come over and party with me.

Vorig - Daarna
